Equestrian Disciplines

There are several equestrian disciplines, each of which is destined to show a specific characteristic of a horse.

All equestrian disciplines are correct and good for the horse, as they are forms of exercise, as long as practiced with the right intensity and frequency.

Each type of breed usually has a specific equestrian discipline in which that breed stands out better. That is a breed’s purpose: horses are selected for their ability to show specific   characteristics, such as form, agility, endurance, resistance, strength, perfection of movement, jump capacity, speed…

However, there are horses that have ability to participate in several equestrian disciplines, such as the Lusitano Pure Breed horse, bred in Portugal. They are very versatile horses, and can be found in dressage, bullfighting, endurance, jumping, working equitation, carriage driving, etc. These are beautiful and simple horses, that learn really fast and have great temper, so you can teach them fast, and if you do not ride them for a while, they won’t forget, and you can come back and ride them again as before.
