Renaissance
62Origin
This cultural movement was very important in the history of the world. It has begun in the 14th century, during the Late Middle Ages, when the man started to understand its importance and its acting in the world. It is called renascence because it was the rebirth of the classical ideas of the ancient Greece and Rome.
Characteristics
In the Renaissance the figures become more alive, the space becomes more real and the history of Christianity becomes to be related In a more human (and not only sacred) point of view.
It is marked by the development of perspective, which was formalized as an artistic technique, by studying light, shadow and human anatomy.
The Renaissance is divided in three major phases: Trecento, Quattrocento and Cinquecento.
It is between the 15th and 16th centuries that there is the maximum expression of the art in Italy and in all Europe. In these decades, the artist became capable of recreating the world on panels, in canvas, in wood and in frescos.
Also in the Netherlands, a particularly vibrant artistic culture developed, both technically with the introduction of oil paint and canvas, and stylistically in terms of naturalism in representation.
